Bimal Charles, MBBS, MSc, was most recently the project director for the AIDS Prevention and Control Project, in Tamil Nadu, India, where he provides technical support. He has steered the non-governmental organization–led AIDS Prevention and Control Project in Tamil Nadu for more than a decade, and was instrumental in developing the capacity of several individuals and institutions to manage HIV and AIDS interventions in India. Dr. Charles was previously the medical epidemiologist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Global AIDS Project India. He received his bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery, and master of science from the London School of Economics.
